A Brutally Honest Review of Peak City Gym from Former Member - Yikes!
A Brutally Honest Review of Peak City Gym
WARNING: We understand that your opinion of Peak City Gym, the services it provides, and the coaches that train there may change after reading the following.
It's a risk we are willing to take because we know that you deserve the truth...
Kelley Greeson, former PCG Member, writes:
"I rarely write reviews, but when I do, I include info that I would have found helpful when I was doing research.
A friend pointed me to a longevity podcast about a year ago, and I started binging Peter Attia's podcast, his book "Outlive," and other doctors' healthspan podcasts.
When I learned about the accelerated rate at which people naturally lose muscle and bone mass as they age, I was shocked into taking action.
Plus, vainly, I didn't want to look scrawny anymore.
My husband and I researched and interviewed several workout options, including gyms, private training, and online classes. Peak City Gym aligned well with our fitness goals.
What Peak City Gym offered that we were specifically seeking:
Whole-body resistance training at a level that fatigues without causing significant soreness afterwards.
Three inspiring coaches who model and teach us how to exercise using proper form to avoid injury, always offering exercise accommodations for people with limitations due to back issues, knee pain, etc.
Small classes throughout the day with easy online signup for each class so that we have lots of flexibility to work around our busy schedules.
Individual attention and corrections in every class.
One-on-one counseling sessions with coaches to set personal goals and maximize our results, including discussions about nutrition and supplements.
A friendly, supportive atmosphere that encourages us to look forward to working as hard as we want to.
No mirrors.
No one filming their workouts for TikTok.
No unfamiliar, over-stimulating workout music that only gym rats have ever heard.
No young people making us feel old and under-muscled (my husband is in his 60s, and I'm...younger than he is).
On a personal note, I have had major surgeries on three body parts, including a significantly fused spine for scoliosis in my 40s and rotator-cuff shoulder surgery a few years ago.
I consulted a physical therapist at the Spine Center at UNC last month to make sure that my training at Peak City Gym is not harmful. After describing my PCG workouts, the therapist affirmed that this protocol of working out, concentrating on my core, is extremely beneficial for me, and he wished all his patients would commit to this type of exercise.
I feel very comfortable that the coaches at Peak City Gym are helping me to exercise safely.
While we are fairly frugal and I never imagined we would pay to belong to a gym, it is worth the money for us because of the value of how much it has improved many aspects of our health and our lives.
In 6 months, my lean muscle mass improved from the 15th percentile to the 50th percentile for my age. I have more energy. I look better. I feel stronger. I never thought I could accomplish this.
Thank you, Peak City Gym!"
