Former NHL Player Gives Opinion on Peak City Gym After 1 Year
Former NHL Player Gives His Opinion on Fitness-Over-Forty Training Gym
"Hey Guys,
...I really appreciate you both and PCG. You guys are doing a really great job and I know
some days it's probably hard to get up in the mornings to come in and train the likes of
me, but it really makes a difference in people's lives. Mine included.
I've been offered free memberships at other places, etc in
exchange for a review and have declined because I don't tie myself to something I don't
believe in.
I do believe in what you guys are doing and in both of you, so below is a 1 year review
that you are welcome to do with as you please. Maybe it helps in some way, I hope it
does.
Also- I am glad to post or help promote the gym and you guys anyway I can. Just let me know."
Tim Brent's 1 Year Review of Peak City Gym
As a former professional hockey player I have trained/worked out my entire adult life. I have been going
to Peak City Gym, consistently, 4-5 times a week, for a full year now and purposely waited this long so I
could give an honest review of my experience. I am not getting paid or getting anything for free- I've just
enjoyed the experience so much I wanted to share about it.
Trainers: My advice above all is to workout with trainers who know what they are doing. It seems
rudimentary to say that, but so many so-called "trainers" just flat out don't. That will almost always lead to
injury, failed goals and a poor experience. Shane and Brendan are both great, and just what you need to
look for. They are knowledgeable, motivating and truly care about their clients. They give thorough
instruction and demonstrate each exercise, everyday. They will encourage you to push yourself without
being aggressive, give you all the tools you need to hit your goals and you can count on them being there,
day in and day out, at the gym, ready to go.
The Facility: Simply, It's first class. I've been fortunate enough to train in some of the best facilities in the
world and can tell you PCG is right up there. The equipment is quality and plentiful, organized and state
of the art. The facility is always spotless, right down to the early morning leaf blowing by Rick.
Equipment is organized, cleaned daily, water/towels are on hand everyday. Screens are up on the wall
showing all the exercises and repetition counts. If there was one thing on my wish list- I wish they had, it
would be showers for the times you need to go somewhere from the gym, but certainly not a necessity
(first world problems).
Programming: The programming at PCG keeps your body guessing, both getting you stronger and fitter.
The optional modifications allow you to work around injuries (we all have them). There are Red Classes
and Green Classes. Red classes are usually higher repetitions, lighter weights and get your heart rate up,
while green classes are more strength focused and lower repetitions.
These are full body workouts, everyday. You are not training specific muscle groups each day like a
bodybuilder, you are working and moving your whole body. It is truly functional training. Movements that
I cannot stress this enough, THIS IS NOT A CROSSFIT GYM. There are no barbell cleans, snatches,

My Progress: Like many, after my hockey career was over I let my health and fitness slip from being a
priority. I put on weight, and body fat and realized I had less energy and just felt junky overall. I tried
other gyms, Crossfit, F45 and Orange Theory and they just never checked all the boxes for me. One would
have too much cardio not enough lifting or visa versa and didn't have the balance I was looking for, that is
until I started at PCG. I knew immediately I had found my gym but still held reservations and wanted to
be sure.
1 year later, with consistency at PCG and portion control in my diet, I am down almost 30 pounds.
I am back to my NHL playing weight, I am much leaner, much stronger and have so much more
energy. The 6am class has helped my stress levels throughout the day to epic proportions and I
sleep so much better. I am moving better. I notice small things like being able to put my socks on
easier, swing a golf club with no pain, my old hockey injuries aren't as prevalent or nagging and I
can play with my kids easier and longer. That's what it's really about.
Summary: To me, this is very simple. Peak City Gym is about Quality of life. If you go to a Quality gym
like PCG, get trained by Quality trainers/people like Shane and Brendan and put in a Quality effort,
regardless of age, fitness level or ability, you WILL see Quality results. I can promise that. Those results
will be different for everyone, but I can promise you Peak City Gym is for everyone.
